RdSAP 10 is the most significant update to the Reduced Data SAP methodology in years. It brings the domestic assessment closer to the full SAP 10 calculation, changes the carbon and fuel price factors, and asks assessors to collect considerably more data on site.
More data collected on site
- Additional detail on wall construction, insulation and thermal bridging
- Room-by-room heating and secondary heating records
- Expanded questions on ventilation, smart controls and storage
- Better treatment of heat pumps, solar PV, batteries and diverters
Calculation changes
Updated fuel prices and carbon factors reflect a decarbonising electricity grid. In practice, properties with efficient electric heating and renewables tend to score better than under RdSAP 2012, while some gas-heated properties see a small shift the other way.
What assessors should do
- Refresh site-notes templates so the new fields are captured first time
- Allow slightly longer survey times while building familiarity
- Photograph and file evidence for every new data item
- Explain to clients why a new certificate may differ from the old one
